2021 “Resolutions”

I’m not a huge fan of resolutions, mostly because I don’t stick with them. Plus, the pressure of yearly goals makes it really easy for me to throw in the towel if I miss a day. After 2020, we’re setting the bar low this year. I’m going to write one blog post per week (on Wednesdays!) and drink more water.

With the change in routine last year, I found it really easy to go an entire day without drinking any water and noticed headaches, breakouts and dry skin. Obviously, there are plenty of health benefits from drinking water, but in the week and a half that I’ve been doing this, I’ve noticed I’m less hungry throughout the day. My skin isn’t as dry, and even seems a little clearer after only a week and a half.

“More water” is a little too loose of a goal, so I’m drinking a minimum of 78 ounces per day. That’s three of my favorite 26 ounce Yeti. I fill one up first thing in the morning and drink it before lunch, I refill at lunch and drink it before the work day ends and then fill one up while I’m cooking dinner and drink it before bed — the earlier the better so I’m not waking up in the middle of the night. Obviously there’s water in lots of other things I drink throughout the day, like seltzer, my morning smoothie, and coffee — but I’m tracking strictly 78 ounces of plain water. The first few days were really tough, but we’ve gotten into a good routine. Plus, Pete and I have matching Yetis so we’re keeping each other accountable.

I’ve been using the Water Llama app to track my water consumption. I wouldn’t necessary recommend spending $7 on this app, but I’ve wasted more money on dumber things, so here’s what makes it worth it:

  1. There’s a confetti celebration when I complete my goal — and who doesn’t like confetti?
  2. It’s easy to visualize how much water you have left to drink… in the shape of a llama.
  3. It syncs up with Apple Health and reminds me on my Apple Watch when I haven’t logged any water in a while.

And we’re 12 days in… so far, so good! What are your “resolutions” and how are you holding up so far?
